The Sony WH1000XM5 headphones feature an excellent amount of bass, especially for closed-back headphones. They also have excellent soundstages and clear distinction between vocals and instruments.

They have a very low latency for watching videos, which is a plus. The lag is so tiny that it's almost imperceptible and they can be used to play casual games. They're not the ideal choice for video games that compete and are ideal for those who intend to use them for entertainment and for making hands-free phone calls.

Sony is very committed to incorporating smart features into its products and the WH-1000XM5 are no exception. The active noise cancellation was one of the best that I've ever used, and they come with many clever features that will enhance your listening experience. Sony's DSEE Extreme Engine upscales compressed audio to near-high-resolution quality. They're compatible with Sony's LDAC technology, which streams higher-bitrate music via Bluetooth.

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones, the PX7 S2 have been consistently on top lists of wireless headsets since the introduction of the first-generation PX7 in 2015. This puts them in the same category as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bose QuietComfort. Its newest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the first headphones to a higher level, with better ANC performance as well as a fresh design.

The bio-cellulose drivers that measure 40mm inside the earcups have been angled so that they point directly at your eardrums. This delivers an experience with more intimacy unlike other closed-back headphones. The PX7 S2 lives up to this claim with a fervent zeal. Vocals are clear and clear, and bass is a deep and rumbly when you need it to be.

The PX7 S2 is also very good at voice calls. It provides crisp clean, clear sound that will not drown out your voice. The PX7 S2 also offers an extremely fast charge that can bring you back to full capacity in just two hours. They're also compatible with hi-res music, thanks to the aptX adaptive Bluetooth codesc, which allows the playback of 24-bit audio.

For most listeners, though the most important change is the enhanced noise-canceling and audio quality. In our tests we were able eliminate nearly all of the simulations of aircraft noises using the PX7 S2. They also excelled in Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus which offer excellent insight into the changing dynamics between the solo vocal, the wind trio, and orchestral accompaniment.

As well as In addition to improved ANC In addition to improved ANC, as well as improved ANC, PX7 S2s have a number of other useful features that make them very comparable with other top-rated noise cancelling headphones. They're completely wireless and come with Bluetooth multipoint support, so you can pair with two devices at once. They also have built-in microphones that allows hands-free calls while using your phone's assistant. The construction is durable and top-quality and will last for many years.

Of course they're not the perfect models. The clamp force of our test models were a bit more than we'd like, and they didn't have as many app features as other models. However, these aren't big issues. The PX7 S2s is a fantastic wireless headset that beats out other competitors in its class. It's difficult to imagine a competitor beating them.

3. Focal Bathys wireless headphoens

For audiophiles who prize high fidelity and are looking for a top-quality wireless noise cancelling headset, the Focal Bathys are difficult to beat. They're the French audio company's very first ANC blootooth headphones that utilize Bluetooth and they offer incredible sound quality both in Bluetooth mode and when connected to the device via USB for true hi-fi listening at up to 24-bit/192kHz (the headphones are also capable of blocking external sound through its closed ear cups).

The Bathys are gorgeous with their sleek black finish and swooping curves that are similar to Focal's premium open-back Elear and closed-back Celestee headphones. They also have premium materials such as magnesium and aluminum to create solid construction that feels solid, comfortable and worth the price.

In Bluetooth mode, the Bathys provide a clear and vibrant sound that easily surpasses similarly priced consumer ANC options like the Bose QC45. They can be enhanced further by using direct DAC audio mode, making them a great choice for serious hi-fi enthusiasts.

The Focal and Naim app allows users to adjust the headphone's playback controls and Bluetooth pairing preferences. You can select between soft or silent intensities for ANC as well as alter the brightness of LEDs that are on the ear cups, and tweak settings for EQ. The app is not complete, but it offers enough functionality to be worth the cost of downloading.

The only drawback is the active noise cancellation, which isn't able to live up to the quality of the competition. The headphone doesn't block out all of the ambient noise as the top-rated XM5 or AirPods Max, and its Treble accuracy is subpar with a muddy mid to high frequency that impedes vocals and instruments.

The Focal Bathys aren't the most portable blootooth headphones. They are not suitable for travel due to their earcups don't fold and they are heavier than the competition. They're best suited to an environment at home where they can be used for blutooth headphones lengthy listening sessions or as an example headphone for sound engineering purposes. Despite their size and bulk they Bathys are actually comfortable to wear for prolonged periods of time.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WHCH720N is a fantastic pair of wireless over-ear headsets at a reasonable price. The noise cancelling technology is fantastic and can do a lot to cut down on ambient noise. They are ideal for commuters or travellers. They also add an appealing touch of premium quality with their sturdy construction and appealing matte finish.

They have a similar design to Sony's more recent 1000X and XB910N blutooth Headphones. They sport a slim, plastic headband, with the standard ear cups hinges. They are lightweight and comfortable, but they feel a bit too tight for my taste. In the box, they have an USB-C port to charge as well as an 3.5mm jack, and a decent length cable. They are compatible with multipoint Bluetooth pairing, which means you can connect them to two devices at the same time, if you wish.

In my tests, the CH720N's hybrid technology for noise cancellation did a great job of reducing ambient sound. There were only a few small blips while walking through Waterloo Station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers didn't zap every sound in the vicinity however they struggled with lower frequency sounds like the rumbling engine sound of trains and buses.

Streaming music over the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth, and it exhibited a low level of harmonic distortion. I tried a range of genres and found they handled the intricate interplay between instruments very well. It did a great job of taming the bass in rock tracks while keeping the mix in focus.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to customize the CH720N's multipoint connectivity and ANC settings to suit your preferences. You can also add a variety of audio presets. You can also make use of the app to enable DSEE which boosts the quality of compressed content and improves the audio quality.

The WH-CH720N is an excellent value for PS130. It isn't equipped with some of Sony's top features (such as Speak-to-Chat and Fast Attention) however it comes with many great features. You get access to 360 Reality Audio and a range of smart controls, in addition to the DSEE upscaling feature. The only thing that's missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support I believe it would have been a welcome inclusion.
